No, the use of full time school resource officers, having police teach or have one on one time with the students and provide a safe environment.

 @8CDK9ZH from Nebraska  answered…5yrs5Y

No, they shouldn't have a single gun at our school at all. Not security guards, police officers, etc. Students are supposed to feel safe at school.

 @8CFL9K5 from North Carolina  answered…5yrs5Y

I don't think they should have a gun, more like something to protect everyone.

 @8CFLXGH from Arkansas  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes, but only if the the teacher(s) go through a mandatory gun safety course

 @7PTCG38 from Wisconsin  answered…5yrs5Y

No, hire two or three professionally trained security guards instead who are certified to carry a firearm.

No, More guns are not the answer. They should not have to carry a gun in a place of learning we should make stronger laws to control who is able to purchase a gun.

 @8DDC8Y4 from Georgia  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes, but there should be more laws against having a gun in the first place so that teachers carrying guns would not be necessary

 @8DH2G48answered…5yrs5Y

 @8DP5T8C from Massachusetts  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8BXNXCH from Missouri  answered…5yrs5Y

I feel like they should because if the person breaks into the school and gets to our classroom the teacher should have to bed ready to strike.

 @6K8N8XC from Illinois  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes, if the teachers are ok with handling it and have a concealed carry permit.

 @52P5M5Sanswered…5yrs5Y

no, it's ridiculous that a solution to mass shootings is more guns, we should focus on mental health

 @8F5MHGJ from Wisconsin  answered…5yrs5Y

  @8DN4WYN from Pennsylvania  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes! As a AFT member absolutely! (And I wont be endorsed by my union for saying this).

 @8FC9Y25 from North Carolina  answered…5yrs5Y

No, this would increase the risk of accidental shootings. Hire a well-trained security guard.

 @7PTCG38 from Wisconsin  answered…5yrs5Y

No, instead hire professionally trained security guards who are certified to carry a firearm.

 @8CMCHPM from Indiana  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes, but if they only if they undergo crisis training (with yearly certification), pass background and mental health checks, and keep the gun in a secure but accessible spot.

 @8FSFP6B from Ohio  answered…5yrs5Y

If the teacher has their concealed carrying licsense and is 21. Also if they have no serious health problems.

 @8FSLGMY from New York  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8FVCVRP from Indiana  answered…5yrs5Y

Only if those teachers have no criminal record whatsoever, and have the proper training and know how and when to use it.

 @8FY3NH9 from Massachusetts  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8FSK5JG from Wisconsin  answered…5yrs5Y

yes, I believe that teachers who are comfortable with carrying one should be give the chance as long as they don't have a criminal past

 @78S5M87 from Wisconsin  answered…5yrs5Y

 @riddlecongress from Connecticut  answered…5yrs5Y

If a teacher would like to carry to protect their students, they should be trained to do so safely. I believe our children are our most precious asset of this country every school should have a trained and armed guard to protect them. My plan would be to create a Federally funded program to hire returning veterans of our armed forces to protect our schools. These are men and women trained to run into danger, and as we saw in Parkland, the school resource officer was too afraid to go stop the shooter.

 @8GFNBTY from Minnesota  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8GFG856 from New Jersey  answered…5yrs5Y

Teachers should have the option, not be required and have proper training.

 @8GM95MJ from California  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes, if they volunteer, are well trained and vetted psychologically and physically.

 @8GMR5G7 from Ohio  answered…5yrs5Y

Both yes AND no, because of upsides and downsides to this. First of all, no, teachers, or at least certain teachers should not be permitted to carrying firearms in school buildings because there could be the possibility that a teacher could let loose their anger upon any student or group of students at any given point in time, and giving teachers firearms would put students who have a teacher with anger management issues at a larger risk, because that teacher could open fire on a student(s) who made the teacher snap via purposely or accidentally doing something wrong, and at still more risk…  Read more

What an absolute shame that we have to ask this question. But, if a person is licensed to carry a gun, and that person happens to be a teacher, then yes.

 @8GMPK8G from Ohio  answered…5yrs5Y

All teachers should be required to get there CCW and be allowed, not required, but allowed to carry at school.

 @8GSNZ9Fanswered…5yrs5Y

Yes but they can never have it loaded unless theres a person trying to break in the school

 @8GVYL7W from Kansas  answered…5yrs5Y

I think it all depends on the person. Some teachers might be ok with it and if so then they should be trained by a professional but then some people it might be against there religion to carry a fire air s in my option it depends on the school, place, and person.

 @8GYWKM5answered…5yrs5Y

no, have at least one school resource office on staff at all times and allow teachers to keep less lethals(taser, baton, etc) with condition they can only use it if there is a immediate threat to life. the teacher would be required to be thoroughly trained with said item and would have to maintain a good psych eval

 @8GYMZ3B from Pennsylvania  answered…5yrs5Y

If teachers have pasted mental stability testing and have received proper training then yes. However, I also think we should hire professionally trained security guards.

 @8H4DF7B from Arizona  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes if the teacher is trained and if it is voluntary and if it is concealed and if the teacher passes background checks and doesn't have a mental health issue or emotional disturbance other than anxiety, depression, or OCD. Armed and trained security guards who have gone through background checks and the same emotional and mental health screenings need to be hired and three boards independently monitor their conduct.

 @8H4QJTV from Wisconsin  answered…5yrs5Y

Teachers with a legal gun license and current training should be allowed.

 @8H5C4NW from Arizona  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8HK67RX from Pennsylvania  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8HKK2NR from Minnesota  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes but I think that they need to be properly trained and away from the kids

 @58RCYKKanswered…5yrs5Y

A focus should be placed on the mental health of the students when they're as young as possible to help try and prevent any gun violence.

 @8HPZRLB from Montana  answered…5yrs5Y

In that kind of situation I think no and they should just pay another person some form of trained weapons smith to be able to stay at the school during school hours in case something like that happens

 @8HQ8Y5B from North Carolina  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8HQ887F from Texas  answered…5yrs5Y

No, teach students and teachers about self defense and the dangers and limitations of guns: they are not the holy grail of self defense and are meant for offensive purposes.

 @8HQP6RT from North Carolina  answered…5yrs5Y

no teacher should have a gun, but there should be more security officers.

 @8HWHDS4 from Arkansas  answered…5yrs5Y

 @427PX6Wanswered…5yrs5Y

If the teachers background is good and he has his pistol permit he/she should be able to carry but put the weapon in a spot were students cannot see or touch it.

 @8J3R5CM from Arkansas  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes, but only after an extensive background check and it has to be concealed.

 @8JBM5ZC from Kentucky  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes, teachers with gun safety training and who WANT to carry a gun should be able to carry for the protection of themselves and their school community. No one should be forced to carry a gun.

 @8JG482R from Massachusetts  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8JGM5TH from Pennsylvania  answered…5yrs5Y

No, but If you have a concealed carry permit you should be able to take your conceal carry with you even on school grounds

 @7PTCG38 from Wisconsin  answered…5yrs5Y

No, hire professionally trained security guards who are certified to carry a firearm instead.

 @8JP6YNM from California  answered…5yrs5Y

No, hire professionally trained security guards funded by the government instead.

 @8JPPYW4 from California  answered…5yrs5Y

Teachers or security should have a gun for protection but hidden and lcoked away in a safe or security gards holster.

 @8JW96X5 from Arizona  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes, but only after certified training and stringent psychological testing

 @8JWKQ96answered…5yrs5Y

I don’t think teachers should carry guns at school because most of them probably don’t know how to actually use one and that’s not safe. I believe that we should just have a few security guards or police that are trained. But that what we pretty much have now but we only have one

 @8KJKBZ3 from Washington  answered…5yrs5Y

I feel like teachers should incase of a school shooter tries to harm students or the teacher but if the teacher wants to have one they should get a background check done and they should go to like some classes to learn how to be responsible with it and how to use it properly.

 @8KRJ85X from Missouri  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8KTKKWG from Maine  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes, a teacher should carry a gun just in case the police cant get there right away when a school shooter breaks in. They need something to protect them and there class.

 @8L45VCB from Nebraska  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8LHK29X from Colorado  answered…5yrs5Y

It depends because it could be good for self-defense but this could also increase the rate of accidental shootings.

 @8LJD4FT from Colorado  answered…5yrs5Y

 @7ZSCDK4 from Arizona  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes, but they must go through additional training and screening beforehand

 @8LKRCYD from Washington  answered…5yrs5Y

No, there could be accidental shootings, and racism still lies in schools, which can cause the gun being used when angered by a teacher or student.

 @8LM77CM from New York  answered…5yrs5Y

NO, no one should should bring a gun to school. What they should do is that add a metal detector or something that can detect guns if anything was trying to shoot up the school.
